How To Make Your Own Fudgesicles

This rich and creamy treat is perfect for the warm summer months ahead. It’s a delicious dessert to cool off from a hot day in the sun. But if you’re like me, you don’t need a reason to make them – or to eat them.

I remember asking for popsicles of all sorts in the summer and would go running like a crazy person at the first sound of the ice cream truck coming down our street yelling “Ice cream man!” to get the attention of my mom so she could make a mad dash to her quarter stash to let my sister and I indulge. It was one of the few moments when summer really felt like summer. The moments of dripping fudgesicle (or other frozen treat) down my face and hands – and ultimately on the hot pavement.

These days, I don’t go running to my mom to ask for money when I hear the ice cream man. Nor do I pick up fudgesicles when I head to the store. That’s because when you don’t eat dairy, there aren’t a whole lot of frozen treats you can choose from – let alone fudgesicles.

Which is why I decided to create my own fudgesicles at home. Not only can I make sure there isn’t a trace of dairy included, but I can also decide how much sweetness gets added to the recipe. Two things I very much enjoy knowing about what I’m putting in to my body.

This year, I’m using my gift that I received for my birthday last year. A quick-popsicle maker. These are the needless things that you ask your husband for when there aren’t very many other things on your wish-list. Plus, this one had been on my wish list for about two years prior to me getting over my own embarrassment to ask for something that I could easily buy for 50 cents at the nearest drugstore.

Here’s my new go-to recipe when I’m looking for a chocolatey frozen treat that’s dairy-free and sugar-free:

Homemade (Dairy-Free Sugar-Free) Fudgesicles

Servings depend on size of popsicle molds

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk (from the carton, not the can)
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1-3 tablespoons raw honey (or other natural sweetener) or 1/4 tsp liquid stevia
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder or raw cacao

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender.
  2. Blend until a smooth consistency is reached.
  3. Divide among popsicle molds and freeze.
  4. Enjoy these guilt-free delicious treats to your heart’s content!
